North Shore Community College hosts coat, food distribution for area veterans

Wicked Local Northwest - 2/26/2021

Feb. 26—DANVERS — On Wednesday, Feb, 24, North Shore Community College (NSCC) and community volunteers, along with local officials, helped give back to local veterans.

Sen. Joan Lovely, State Rep. Sally Kerans and NSCC Interim President Nate Bryant, were all on hand to assist in the distribution of new winter coats to area veterans through the Coats4Vets program.

"It's always wonderful to support our veterans and support local efforts," Kerans said. "We have a great support network for our veterans here in Danvers and surrounding towns. I'm happy to just be a part of that and help our veterans."

At the same time, NSCC and the Massachusetts Military Support Foundation (MMSFI) hosted a Food4Vets food distribution, an event that has been held bi-monthly for area veterans since April 2020.

"We served 53 veterans food boxes and gave out 22 coats," Kristine Babcock, veterans coordinator for NSCC.

The Coats4Vets program, made possible through the generous donations from Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation, ensures veterans in need have coats that will keep them safe from the unforgiving winter weather in New England.

The Food4Vets Vital Meal Kits (VMKs), distributed every two weeks, contain nonperishable and well-balanced meals with enough food and nutritional value for two people to have three meals a day for 14 days.
