New Gaston County ADA: “I’m here to better my community"

Gaston Gazette - 1/26/2021

Assistant District Attorney Alexis Tremble believes she can help make a difference in the lives of Gaston County residents through the courts.

Tremble began working as a Gaston County assistant district attorney in November 2020. She, as well as the county's other new prosecutor, Ryon Smalls, replaced Donald Rice, who was elected to District Court judge in 2020, and Mark Warshawsky, who retired before the New Year.

Her father a U.S. Navy veteran, her mother an employee of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in the nation's capital and her brother a member of the U.S. Air Force, Tremble grew up in a family of public servants but found her purpose outside of the Armed Forces.

“We just have this expectation of not self but country,” she said. “I realized the best way I know how to make a difference is through the legal division. If you want to break down a country, the first thing you go for is the lawyers. They’re important people.”

Tremble didn’t move to the United States until after high school. The 27-year-old spent the first 10 years of her life in Guam before moving to Germany with her family ahead of her teenage years.

An athlete, Tremble played basketball while attending Rowan College at Burlington County in New Jersey before transferring to UNC Chapel Hill.

Tremble graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law in 2019 and took a position as a law clerk associate at McAngus Goudelock & Courie law firm in Charlotte, where she now lives.

Prior to coming to Gaston County, she dabbled in bankruptcy and workers compensation law at Davis Nardone law firm in Concord.

Because she worked primarily in civil matters, Tremble said she felt her impact wasn’t very big at a private firm.

“I’m here to better my community,” she said. “I felt like I wasn’t impacting my community the way I wanted to. I always try to find something I will be passionate about, and criminal law hit all the boxes.”

Though she’s only dipped her toes in the water so far, Tremble has enjoyed learning from her fellow prosecutors.

“Gaston County is special and different than other counties I’ve worked in,” she said. “Even if we came from the other side, like a defense attorney, they came up to us and welcomed us… we’re here to grow together.”

When she’s not in the courtroom, you’ll find Tremble paddle boarding, shooting at the range, reading a book or hiking a nearby trail with her Goldendoodle, Gilbert.
