Dallas Cowboys’ Trevon Diggs deletes Twitter because it’s toxic, ‘success breed hate’

Fort Worth Star-Telegram - 8/8/2022

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs went to podium Monday with his five-year old son Aidan, who was the star of HBO’s Hard Knocks last fall and remains the cutest most popular figure associated with the franchise who is on the playing field.

“It’s fun, Just being able to share this moments. Football doesn’t last forever,” Diggs said. “It’s a blessing.”

Said Aiden: “Dallas is going to win the Super Bowl… because it’s my favorite team.”

Diggs can’t go wrong and do no wrong with his son at his side.

But he is finding out that the outside world is not always so loving even when he is seemingly at the height of his career.

And coming off All-Pro season in which he led the NFL with 11 interceptions, Diggs is finding more negativity than celebration with more of the talk in the off season surrounding his league-high 1,068 yards in coverage and five scores allowed.

From talk shows to podcasts, to fans, everyone has an opinion of Diggs.

“I feel like it what comes with it,” Diggs said. “Hates comes with success. “Everyone is obligated to their own opinion. All I can do is control what I control on the field and let my play speak for myself. I can’t respond to everybody. I can’t reply to everybody. I rather not say nothing at all.”

The situation came to a head last week in training camp for Diggs when video of him getting burned in a 1-on-1 drill by receivers CeeDee Lamb and Simi Fehoko lit up social media.

He deactivated his Twitter account.

“It’s toxic,” Diggs said with a laugh. “I usually don’t be on Twitter, a lot. But I am in camp. I trying to focus. I am trying to lock in. I’m trying to be better every day.”
