COVID-19 vaccine appointments canceled due to severe weather, Austin health officials say
Austin American-Statesman - 2/15/2021
Austin Public Health officials said they were forced to cancel all coronavirus vaccine and testing appointments scheduled for Tuesday because of the severe winter weather that has impacted most of Texas.
Health officials on Monday did not say when vaccination or testing sites would reopen, only that they would resume when weather permits. All Monday appointments also were canceled, according to an announcement from Austin Public Health on Sunday.
Dr. Mark Escott, interim Austin-Travis County health authority, and Austin Public Health Director Stephanie Hayden-Howard on Friday said their agency would work with individuals to reschedule vaccination appointments once the weather conditions improved.
Austin Public Health was working to administer the last of their 12,000 first doses and 12,000 second doses when the winter weather hit.
Austin Public Health on Friday said vaccines that were supposed to be used this weekend wouldn't go to waste, but would instead be used for later this week.
This is a developing story; check back for updates.
