3 dead, 1 permanently blinded after drinking hand sanitizer: reports

Don’t drink hand sanitizer under any circumstance.

You might think that doesn’t need to be said, but, according a sad story on Yahoo.com, some people need to hear it.

You’ve probably never considered taking a swig of your sanitizer, and good for you, but some folks have done more than consider it and the outcome has been horrific. According to the story, the New Mexico Department of Health says three people have died after drinking it, three more are in critical condition and another person is permanently blind.

Why would anyone drink hand sanitizer?

Well, it has methanol, a form of alcohol which is toxic to humans, and the Dept. said it believes the cases were related to alcoholism.

The article says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that methanol can cause “a range of issues, including headache, dizziness, blurred vision, kidney failure, coma and death.”
