Raw nuts recalled because they may be contaminated with salmonella

Patriot-News - 6/22/2020

The NOW Health Group has recalled a batch of its raw macadamia nuts because they may be contaminated with salmonella, according to an announcement with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

According to the FDA, salmonella is an organism that can cause severe and sometimes fatal infections. Symptoms include “fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.”

The nuts were sold online and distributed to retail stores nationwide.

The product details are:

NOW Real Food Raw Macadamia Nuts, 8 ounce pouch, unsalted – product code 7119, lot number 3141055 and best by date of January 2021.
