Program waiving child assistance copays

Eastern New Mexico News - 5/15/2022

May 14—New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department (ECECD) is waiving all child care assistance copays for families who qualify for the program.

According to a news release from ECECD the department has expanded eligibility for free child care to families whose incomes are at or below 400% federal poverty level, that would be $111,000 a year for a family of four.

New Mexico now has the broadest eligibility for free child care in the nation according to the news release.

"If you are working, seeking work, and/or attending school, you may be eligible to receive child care assistance that pays the full cost of your child care — including participating after-school and summer programs for school-age children," the report reads.

Family of Four Monthly Income at Various FPL Levels:

The program started May 1 when the ECECD began waiving child care assistance co-payments for any family that qualifies for the program.

Families who are interested are invited to learn more by visiting the department's website nmececd.org and click on "Apply for Services" or call 800-691-9067.
