Lincoln man gets 53-56 years in prison for sexually abusing two young boys

The Lincoln Journal Star - 4/10/2024

Apr. 10—A 40-year-old Lincoln man was sentenced to more than 50 years in prison for sexually abusing two young boys.

Victor Bautista Acosta's crime was discovered after the mother of one of the boys came across a recording of a sexual encounter between him and a middle school-aged boy captured on a toy audio recorder, according to police.

In a forensic interview, the child in the recording said Acosta had raped him multiple times, once even recording it on his cellphone.

He said Acosta had threatened him to never tell.

The investigation led to a second victim, a grade school-aged boy, who said Acosta had sexually assaulted him multiple times, too.

Acosta initially denied the assaults in an interview with police, but admitted it was his voice when confronted with the recording.

He later pleaded no contest to attempted first-degree sexual assault of a child and two counts of felony child abuse.

On Wednesday, Lancaster County District Judge Jodi Nelson sentenced Acosta to 53 to 56 years, the maximum she could. He also will have to register as a sex offender and be subject to lifetime community supervision and a civil commitment evaluation at the end of his sentence.
