Sacramento County child sex abuse case connected to day care owned by suspect’s parents

Sacramento Bee - 6/29/2022

Sacramento County investigators earlier this month arrested a man accused of sexually abusing three girls, including some alleged acts that stemmed from an in-home day care center his parents owned.

Jerry Don Egy, 45, was arrested June 17 on 15 counts of committing lewd and lascivious acts with a child younger than 14 years old against the victim’s will by using force, violence or duress, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday in a news release.

Sheriff’s officials said Egy also faces three counts of committing lewd and lascivious acts with a child younger than 14. Egy on Wednesday remained at the Sacramento County Jail with his bail amount set at $5.5 million.

Sheriff’s officials said some of the abuse stemmed from the in-home day care center owned and operated by Egy’s parents, who are not accused of being complicit with the alleged crimes. The Sheriff’s Office did not provide the name of the day care center.

The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office filed a criminal complaint against Egy on June 16. Prosecutors alleged in the complaint that Egy sexually abused three girls.

One girl was sexually abused when she was 8 to 11 years old at some point from Feb. 17, 2016 through Feb. 16, 2020, according to the criminal complaint. Egy faces 11 counts of sexual abuse stemming from her allegations.

Another girl was sexually abused when she was 10 years old at some point from April 9, 2016 through April 8, 2017, according to the complaint. Egy faces six counts of sexual abuse stemming from alleged acts with the 10-year-old girl.

Prosecutors alleged in the complaint that Egy sexually abused the third girl listed in the complaint when she was 13 years old from Oct. 20, 1995 through Oct. 19, 1996.

Egy also faces an additional charge accusing him of sexual assault on a female by using force, violence or duress at some point from Nov. 17, 2017 through Nov. 16, 2018. The complaint does not include the female’s age or whether she was a minor when the alleged sexual assault occurred. Prosecutors alleged this charge is a separate offense but connected to the other 18 charges filed against Egy in this case.

Egy was arraigned June 21 and is scheduled to return to Sacramento Superior Court on Aug. 3.

Investigators asked anyone with relevant information regarding this case to call the Sheriff’s Office Child Abuse Bureau at 916-874-5191 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357.
