Bust out the hog for charity motorcycle rides to prevent child abuse, support veterans

Idaho Statesman - 6/20/2022

Calling all Idaho bike enthusiasts! Want a couple of reasons to dust off that chopper and make a date with the asphalt? I get it, no one really needs a reason. The ride itself is worthy — sun on your face, wind in your hair, a perfect blend of exhilaration and peace. What’s not to love? But for those who need that extra nudge, you’d be revving up the precious beast for a worthwhile cause — or two.

This Saturday, June 25, Guardians of the Children Sawtooth Chapter is hosting a Ride, Roll and Raffle. Registration starts at 9 a.m. at High Desert Harley-Davidson, 2310 E. Cinema Drive, Meridian. Kickstands up at 11 a.m.

The charity ride features a raffle, silent auction and dice roll. A dice what? A dice roll is similar to a “poker run,” but with dice instead, according to a news release. Riders roll dice at each of the stops, write down their score on a card, and tally up all the scores at the end. Prizes are then awarded for highest and lowest totals.

Registration is $20 and $10 for passengers. The route and stops will be announced at registration.

Funds will go to support Guardians of the Children, whose mission is to “recognize and react to child abuse and educate the public to do the same; to serve as advocates to provide strength and stability to families in crisis; and be an answer to the prayer of an abused child or teen for courage, support, and protection,” according to GOC’s Facebook page.

If this weekend is no good, there’s another ride going down July 9 called the Veterans Fundraiser, also from High Desert Harley-Davidson in Meridian.

The event, hosted by the Veterans and Patriot Association, is open to vehicles, too, and will raise funds and awareness for local veterans and patriots.

Registration is from 9 a.m. to noon. And there will be a raffle and food trucks.

Entry is $20. The route is still being sorted out.

For more information, call High Desert at 208-338-5599.
