Everson man suspected of repeatedly molesting child over four-year period

Bellingham Herald - 6/29/2020

Jun. 29--An Everson man who has a previous conviction for a sexually-motivated crime is suspected of repeatedly molesting a child he was familiar with over a four-year period.

The Whatcom County Sheriff's Office booked Alfredo Junior Garcia Jr., 26, into Whatcom County Jail on Friday, June 26, on suspicion of first-degree child molestation and communicating with a minor for immoral purposes, and jail records show he was released Saturday on $60,000 bail.

The investigation began June 1, after deputies were called for a report that a juvenile had been sexually assaulted at a home in Everson, sheriff's office spokesperson Deb Slater told The Bellingham Herald in an email.

The report was forwarded to investigators, who found that Garcia had repeatedly inappropriately touched the juvenile over the course of four years, Slater reported.

Whatcom County Superior Court records show that Garcia was convicted of fourth-degree assault charges with sexual motivation special allegations on July 6, 2017. Garcia, who pleaded guilty to once having sex with a 14-year-old he knew in 2013 when he was 19, was sentenced to 180 days in work custody with 90 days suspended sentence.
