Tomoka prison guard faces child molestation charges in Volusia, Flagler

News-Journal - 6/12/2020

A Tomoka Correctional Institution prison officer already charged with molesting a child in Volusia County now faces a similar charge in Flagler County, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.

Anthony Checchi, 35, was charged on Thursday with lewd and lascivious molestation on a victim less than 12-years-old stemming from an incident in Palm Coast in 2014, according to the release from the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.

The Flagler Sheriff's Office obtained the arrest warrant for the portion of the crime that occurred in Flagler, the release said.

Checchi had already been charged on Tuesday by the Volusia County Sheriff's Office with lewd and lascivious molestation of a child after an investigation that began in May.

The Flagler arrest warrant was served on Checchi at the Volusia County Branch Jail where he was being held without bond.

After his initial arrest in Holly Hill by Volusia deputies, Checchi posted a $25,000 bond and was released from the Volusia County Branch Jail.

But Checchi violated the terms of his release by returning to his home without a police escort and he was arrested again Thursday evening.

Checchi's bond in Flagler is $25,000.
