Kenly town manager faces sexual battery charge

Jun. 8--SMITHFIELD -- Kenly Town Manager Michael Douglas has been arrested on a misdemeanor charge of sexual battery.

The Johnston County Sheriff's Office made the arrest Friday on behalf of the Johnston County District Attorney's Office.

District Attorney Susan Doyle on Monday said she could not comment on a pending case.

The arrest stemmed from an incident on or around Aug. 15, 2019, according to a Johnston County Grand Jury indictment.

According to the indictment, Douglas "unlawfully and willfully did for the purpose of sexual arousal, sexual gratification and sexual abuse engage in sexual conact with another person ... by force and against the will of the other person ... ."

The Grand Jury handed down the indictment June 1.

Douglas was released under a $5,000 unsecured bond. As conditions of his release, he had to provide a DNA sample, and he cannot have contact with his accuser.
