Jessica Meuse is showing a lot of love to people who need it most.

On Monday at 7 p.m. the Slapout singer/songwriter is helping kick off Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month in a recorded special evening with friends concert. She's working with Bethesda, a nationwide organization that serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Meuse, an "American Idol" season 13 finalist, recently performed a concert at one of Bethesda's homes, Cornerstone Village in Victoria, Minnesota.

"It's accessible and affordable housing for people with developmental disabilities," Meuse said. "We did a socially distanced fun concert for them. I played my song that I wrote for Bethesda, called 'Because You Love Me.'"

She wrote the song after visiting Bethesda's headquarters in Wisconsin.

"They help people who have developmental disabilities get jobs. They'll give them housing," Meuse said. "And then if they need care, they'll give them care around the clock. It's amazing. It's really awesome."

The concert is available to view online at includeallabilities.com/Concert. It will be available to view there starting Tuesday for anyone who misses the premiere.

"We're hoping to see the song grow, and spread a positive message in a time where a lot of the good news gets overshadowed by the toxic stuff that's everywhere," Meuse said.

Bethesda has more concerts ahead this month, including Cindy Cash and Mark Alan, the daughter and nephew of Johnny Cash, on March 18, and Christian artist Crowder on March 25.

More with Meuse

Meuse, who is a rocker with country roots, is trying something new in music for a future project.

"I wrote a rap song," she said. "I'm just branching out everywhere."

She's also got plans to record more music in Fort Wayne, Indiana with Sweetwater Studios, where she was recording for her upcoming Stardust EP.

"Some of that is going to be full production, which is why it's taking a little longer," Meuse said. "We're trying to figure out a good game plan with Sweetwater's label, and if there's an opportunity there. We're trying to build the platform before we launch off of it."

She's also continuing her pre-med studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, on the way to becoming a psychiatrist.
