Williamson County opens warming centers, supplying fuel to nursing homes

There are several warming centers now open for Williamson County residents suffering from power outages.

The locations that are opening are rotating so residents need to call (512) 943-1700 for the most up-to-date information.

The centers open late Wednesday morning were:

Hill Country Bible Church Lakeline at 3300 Little Elm Trail in Cedar Park; pets are welcome in crates Round Rock Baca Center, 301 W Bagdad Ave. # 2; no pets allowed Georgetown Rec Center, 1003 N Austin Ave.; pets are welcome in crates Leander High School, 3301 S Bagdad Rd; pets are welcome in crates Bartlett First Baptist Church, 210 West Bell Street, Bartlett; pets are welcome in crates

According to the ERCOT outage map, there were 48,001 Williamson County residents without power late Wednesday morning.

The county is also working on supplying fuel for generators to nursing homes, said spokeswoman Connie Odom. The long-term care facilities are using generators because they are affected by the rotating power outages, she said.

The facilities are not using the generators for heating but are giving residents blankets, Odom said. They are using the generators for light to prepare food and to help provide oxygen to residents, she said.

Officials are also helping nursing homes with water issues because of boil water notices, Odom said.
