Hannah B.G. Shaw Home named Best Nursing Home by U.S. News & World Report

Feb. 17—The Hannah B.G. Shaw Home, Middleboro, MA has been named Best Nursing Home by U.S. News & World Report for 2020-2021, the seventh consecutive year this accolade has been received by the facility. Nationally, U.S. News recognized 3,277 facilities as its "Best Nursing Homes" out of the more than 15,000 evaluated. To receive this label, a facility must have been "high performing" in short-term rehabilitation, long-term care or both. This year, only 56 of Massachusetts' 375 nursing homes earned the designation of a U.S. News Best Nursing Home.

"Updating the profiles to include a patient safety summary that highlights COVID-19 data paired with other measures of care arms families, caregivers and patients with the information needed to make a decision that keeps safety at the highest priority."

The Best Nursing Homes reflect U.S. News' analysis of data collected and published by the federal government using a methodology defined by U.S. News that evaluates factors that U.S. News has determined most impact patient and resident care, safety and outcomes.

The Hannah B.G. Shaw Home has received High-Performing Ratings in both Long-Term and Short-Term categories. The Long-Term Care Rating aims to provide prospective residents who need help with daily activities, and their families, with analysis and information regarding the quality of care provided by nursing homes. The rating includes data on staffing, success in preventing ER visits and pneumonia vaccination rates, among other metrics. The short-term rating incorporates measures of quality including consistency of registered nurse staffing, use of antipsychotic drugs and success in preventing falls.
