Sun News - 6/17/2020

Jun. 17--Loris Rehab and Nursing Center has the most coronavirus cases among nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the state over the past 30 days, according to information released Tuesday by the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control.

DHEC has registered 46 positive cases among residents at the Loris nursing home over the past month, including seven deaths, and 20 cases to staff. The resident cases are the most in the state, the deaths share the high with Magnolia Manor in Inman, and the staff cases are third to the 22 at Magnolia Manor in Greenwood and 21 at Pruitt Health in Walterboro.

In the past 30 days, nine facilities have registered at least 20 resident cases, and there have been a total of 66 deaths among 470 resident cases and 275 staff cases.

Thus far since the onset of the outbreak in the state in March, there have been 1,591 resident cases including 291 deaths, and 803 staff cases including two deaths among 156 nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the state, according to DHEC.

Loris Rehab and Nursing Center now has 55 positive cases among residents including 11 deaths and 24 staff cases. Pruitt Health in Ridgeway leads the state with both 87 resident cases and 16 resident deaths.

DHEC prioritizes the identification of COVID-19 infections in nursing homes and assisted living facilities because the spread of respiratory illnesses like COVID-19 is common in these types of facilities, and the residents who live there are at high risk for developing complications or death from COVID-19 infection.
